Long Beach officials have plans to change the landscape of the city, but some residents are concerned those changes will not necessarily be for the better.
With $25 million in state grant money, city leaders have drawn up plans to build attractions that include a raised oceanfront park along the boardwalk and a bike-friendly bayfront esplanade full of shops and restaurants.
Sam Pinto, president of the Eastholme Civic Association, says the city would do well to focus on more pressing concerns such as roadways, water quality and the threat of overdevelopment.
Some residents say they think rezoning could lead to taller buildings in the city, but City Councilman Anthony Ermano says he does not expect that to happen under the plan.
