Lifeguards are urging beachgoers to be mindful of rip currents this weekend in the wake of Debby.
Long Beach lifeguards posted signs advising beachgoers to only go knee deep into the water.
"Swim near a lifeguard…and listen to what they say because if they say 'knee deep' – it’s knee deep. It's not waist deep," advised John Skudin, Long Beach lifeguard supervisor.
Lifeguards also urge people to keep an eye out for red flags when they get to the beach. Those flags signal dangerous rip current activity.
Lifeguards also advise swimmers who get caught in a rip current not to panic and to swim parallel to the shore.
