A Long Island teenager is set to become the first female yeshiva graduate to attend West Point.
Rachelle David, 17, is getting ready to graduate from the North Shore Hebrew Academy High School. She will attend West Point Military Academy in the fall.
Academy officials say David will be the first female graduate of an Orthodox yeshiva to attend West Point.
"She will be a real leader in the American military," said Dr. Daniel Vitow, headmaster at North Shore Hebrew Academy. "In 10 years from now, this kid could be the head of the CIA. I'm telling you because she's that good."
Vitow says David has already served as a positive and influential leader during her four years in high school.
When asked about the history she will be making in the fall, David says, "It's just a choice that I'm making. That's what I want to do with my life."
She begins basic training on June 29.
