Hundreds of dogs from all over the country in need of homes arrived at the North Shore Animal League Monday.
The truck filled with 206 dogs containing dogs rescued from puppy mills in Missouri, Kansas and Iowa was unloaded by volunteers and animal league employees. National Mill Dog Rescue Director Theresa Strader has been negotiating with puppy mills over the fate of their retiring breeding dogs for the past two years. The dogs would have been euthanized, but now they?re being examined, vaccinated and prepared for adoption.
Kristina Lange says her group, Animal Rescue of the Hamptons, plans to take as many as 20 dogs for adoption.
The dogs are expected to be ready for adoption in a week to 10 days.
