A man from West Babylon has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for repeatedly sexually abusing a young girl.

The Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office says the 29-year-old was a close family friend of the victim, who viewed him as an “uncle” figure.

The offenses took place after the man started initiating Zoom calls with the then 9-year-old during the COVID-19 shutdown of 2020.

Prosecutors say the two initially discussed subjects such as games, superheroes and television.

He eventually began sharing his screen, showing the girl pornography and inappropriately touching himself.

In March 2022, he started to babysit the girl and abuse her at his home while her mother was at work.

Authorities say she learned his conduct was wrong through the internet and school presentations she viewed at the age of twelve.

She went on to confront the man directly, which ended the abuse.

She disclosed the abuse to her mother after months of experiencing anxiety and panic attacks, prompting the investigation leading to his arrest.

The man was convicted of sexual conduct against a child and child endangerment on May 22.

Following his prison sentence, he will be subject to 20 years of post-release supervision and required to register as a sex offender.
