Embassy Diner to host 9/11 drone show tribute honoring fallen first responders
More than 1,000 drones, live performances, a helicopter flyover and a moment of silence are planned as organizers expect thousands of attendees.

The Embassy Diner in Bethpage is hosting a drone show tribute Thursday night in honor of the first responders who died during the Sept. 11 attacks.
Organizers say more than 1,000 drones will light up the sky as part of the tribute.
Video from last year’s event shows the drone display that attendees can expect to see.
Last year, marked the first year the diner hosted the tribute show, and more than 5,000 people attended.
Organizers hope to double that attendance this year.
In addition to the drone show, the event will feature bagpipes, singing performances, remarks from town and county officials, a helicopter flyover and a moment of silence.
Embassy Diner owner Gus Tsiorvas said the goal of the event is to bring people together while honoring those who died on Sept. 11.
"I wanted the country to come together. I want everybody to be together. We should honor those that fell on that day. We miss them, and we wanted to do something special for them. Together as one community. Unite," he said.
Community members planning to attend are advised not to drive directly to the diner.
The parking lot will be closed for the event, along with one eastbound lane on Hempstead Turnpike and part of Randal Drive.
Shuttle buses will be available from Bethpage Park and Allen Park in Farmingdale to transport attendees to the event.
