A new call has been issued to expand capacity at outdoor events even more.
State and local officials gathered in Smithtown Tuesday to call on Gov. Andrew Cuomo to boost capacity for summer fairs and festivals.
Those in attendance argued that those events are big moneymakers for local businesses who have been devastated by the pandemic.
"It's time to open up our local economy. We can't count on the federal government bailing us out," says Leg. Rob Trotta (R-Fort Salonga). "Because at some point our kids are going to be paying for it. We want the businesses to start making money again and stimulate the economy."
Even if capacity isn't increased, the show will go on in some regard. Officials are planning for the Smithtown Festival Day and Kings Park Day to go ahead as scheduled this June.
