It's one of the most anticipated movies of the year. With a star-studded cast, "The Wolf of Wall Street" hits theaters Christmas Day and it has a big Long Island connection.

The Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorcese collaboration takes a trip back to the 90s, telling the true story of Jordan Belfort, a penny stock trader who's rise led to a life of excess and corruption. The story, based on a book of the same name, was set on Long Island. The firm in the film was located on Marcus Avenue in Lake Success. And many of the brokers in the film were Long Islanders.

Many of the actors did their research before the film.

"We met the real guys and we talked to them," says P.J. Byrne. "You hear the real stories and no one can make that up. It's so detailed and they match each other's stories. It's wild!"

But Long Island moviegoers may also recognize not just the storyline, but the backdrop, as much of the film was shot on Long Island. A party scene was shot in Sands Point; a wedding scene was filmed in Oyster Bay. And Belfort's home was shot in his former hometown of Old Brookville.
