Lawsuit: Smithtown Central School District did nothing to protect child from severe bullying

The lawsuit claims that the student was discriminated against because of his sexual identity.

The parents of a former Smithtown student are suing the district because of alleged discrimination.
They say the school did nothing to protect their child from severe bullying because of his sexual identity.
The lawsuit claims the did nothing when Michael Coppola's classmates threatened to kill him and physically abused him. It also alleges that it happened from fourth to eighth grade at Great Hollow Middle School.
The district says it does not comment on pending litigation.
