A Canarsie mother has a message for the man who gunned down her son, just around the corner from where he grew up in Canarsie.

Barbara Kelly tells News 12 “a piece of her soul is gone” after her 27-year-old son Justin Kelly was gunned down early Wednesday morning.

Police say he was shot and killed around 3 a.m. around the corner from where he lived with his parents, sister and 7-year-old daughter. Kelly says she was in the kitchen and heard the shots.

"I hadn't heard from him, I kept calling his phone five or six times. It was going straight to voicemail,” says Kelly.

Kelly says she ran around the corner and saw her son's best friend laying on the ground bleeding and knew the other man who'd been shot was her son.

"As a mother you know something's wrong with your child, I can't explain it, but you know,” says Kelly.

She says she found a bracelet that she'd given him to hold his keys on in the middle of his blood.

“It was like he dropped it right there so I’d find it,” she says.

Her son was pronounced dead at the hospital. She says he worked at Barclays Center and was always trying to help out around the neighborhood and loved his daughter dearly.

"She tells me ‘grandma, my daddy's not dead, he just got shot in the head,” says Kelly.

With his entire family in mourning, Justin Kelly’s mother says she has a message for the gunman.

"I hate, I hate I hate him. The guy who killed my son. I hate him,” says Kelly. “If he can hear me, I hope you live and suffer, live just to suffer, just like I’m going to live and suffer because you took my son.”
The other victim, a 36-year-old man who was shot in the neck, is in critical condition.
Police say they're searching for at least two men who they believe got away in an early 90s green Honda.
