As Hurricane Noel heads up the eastern seaboard, Long Islanders are bracing for its potentially devastating winds and rain.
"It's going to be a disaster," said Rich Maimone of Mastic Beach. Maimone said the low-lying areas around the nearby marina could be completely underwater. He said he contacted boat owners in an effort to get them down to the marina before the storm hits.
Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy foresees the potential for destruction as well. Levy said if you're on the shore line and it hits the Island the right way there's potential for erosion, bulkhead damage, and serious impact on the low-lying areas.
Suffolk County has set up an emergency services hotline for those affected by Noel, and the Long Island Power Authority asked the public to notify them about outages that occur.
