A former Huntington High School student is suing the district and a teacher for allegations of sexual assault.
The unnamed former student claims band director Brian Stellato abused her when she was a senior during the 2009-2010 school year, according to court documents.
The student claims Stellato began grooming her when she was a freshman. She says abuse occurred in locations such as the school’s band room, Elwood Park and inside a hotel room during a music conference upstate.
A complaint was filed seeking monetary damages. Court records show paperwork was first filed in November, just days before the adult survivors act expired.
Stellato has denied the allegations. The district’s superintendent has also stated that he cannot comment on pending litigation but confirms that Stellato has been assigned to work from home.
