A Garden City homeowner says a tree in his neighborhood presents a potentially dangerous situation.

George Cerasuolo says the tree has grown around a utility pole that is slated to be replaced.

He says the tree’s branches above the powerlines need to be trimmed, but PSEG Long Island disagrees.

PSEG says it sent a tree expert to investigate and told News 12 in a statement, "This tree is in good condition and its limbs meet our equipment clearance standards as defined by the International Society of Arboriculture."

Cerasuolo says he was stunned at that news.

“Are we looking at the same tree?” he asked.

Cerasuolo says the tree needs to be completely removed before another big storm. He believes PSEG Long Island does not want to remove the tree because of the money it would cost.

“It is being penny-wise and pound-foolish. Let’s take care of it now,” says Cerasuolo.

PSEG Long Island says it plans to start pole and wire improvements in the area on Monday.
