The Hempstead Town Zoning Board held a hearing Wednesday on a proposal to build a three-story, 28-unit apartment building in North Bellmore.

The plan is to build the site on Bellmore Road. The proposal is specifically for a complex for people who are 55 and older.

As News 12 has reported, the only thing standing in the way of the plan is a variance from the board. It is because all other buildings in the area are two stories.

Some in the area do not want a three-story building built and spoke out against it at the hearing.

The town board says it make a final decision in the coming weeks.
