Holbrook residents whose basements had flooded with sewage approached the Suffolk County Legislature in Smithtown with their complaints Thursday.
Resident Christine Christiano says the Suffolk County Department of Health dragged its feet in releasing a report on the contents of water flooding her Bishop Lane home. According to Christiano, the flooding has occurred since nearby apartments were built several months ago. She says leeching pools, a part of sewage receptacles, are specifically responsible. The deputy health commissioner presented the report, which confirms Christiano's theory, to legislators at the session.
Although residents claim they do not wish to file any lawsuits, they say they'd like help paying costs totaling more than $100,000.
