New York became the most recent state to criminalize the publication of "revenge porn," the nonconsensual sharing of explicit photos.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the new law Tuesday.
In the next 60 days, it will be illegal to distribute intimate pictures of another person without their consent.
The crime will be a misdemeanor that is punishable by a year in jail.
Victims can also sue the person who sends out the photos and obtain a court order to have the images removed from websites.
