New York State wants to make it easier to get medical marijuana.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo wants to broaden access by allowing patients to get the drug through ointments and chewable tablets.
Proposed changes would also allow patients to have people other than their caregivers accompany them to drug dispensaries.
Some doctors say they have concerns.
"We're taking the level of education from a four-hour certification down to two hours," says Dr. David Gentile, of Oasis Integrative Medicine. "I think it should actually go up to about 10 hours because there is a lot to really consider. We should also be doing a six-month continuing education course."
The state is opening a 30-day comment period on the proposed changes starting Aug. 23.
