A new era is dawning at Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip. On Dec. 14, the hospital’s new Patient Care Pavilion will be open.
“We call it a modernization project because we wanted to bring the latest and greatest to our patients: privacy, natural light, technology," said Dr. Justin Lundbye, the hospital’s president.
The facility includes a 70,000-square-foot emergency department, which includes dozens of private rooms.
“The issue with our current emergency department is that we have about 250 to 320 patients come through our door every day, and we just don’t have the space and rooms to support that," Lundbye said.
With the new space, they will.
There are private hospital rooms upstairs with smart-room technology. The rooms have pull-out couches in case a loved one wants to stay over with the patient.
The facility includes 16 advanced operating rooms. Everything in the pavilion is new.
