The national average for a gallon of regular gasoline has hit $4.02 - over a dollar more than before the Iran war began.

Here in Connecticut, the average is $3.95.

Since the U.S. and Israel launched a joint war against Iran on Feb. 28, the cost of crude oil—the main ingredient in gasoline—has spiked due to deep supply chain disruptions and cuts from major oil producers across the Middle East.

More expensive fuel can also drive up other costs, from utility bills to everyday consumer goods like groceries, which could see price hikes from rising transportation expenses.

If the war drags on, gas prices could climb even higher. However, millions of barrels of oil reserves here in the U.S. may become available.

Gas prices typically rise this time of year as more people hit the road.
