A major makeover starts this week on a park that has been plagued by past violence and crime.
Cow Meadow in Freeport was the scene of a suspected MS-13 killing back in 2016.
The 36-acre park has since fallen into disrepair.
Now, a $2.5 million revitalization project is hoping to bring a brighter future, with two new dog parks, a 50-boat marina, concession stand, spray park and a beach.
Freeport officials say the funding comes from village reserves so residents will not see an increase in their taxes.
