Families at the Moxey Rigby in Freeport say their building's conditions are not up to standards.
"We need the quality of life that was promised," says one tenant.
News 12 first reported their concerns after tenants complained about the building's fire alarms going off at all hours of the night.
"We received multiple complaints from the Freeport Fire Department for multiple responses for that site because of false alarms," says Chief Fire Marshal Michael Uttaro.
The Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office issued four violations to the property.
"We found the fire alarm system in disrepair, not functioning as it's supposed to and not operational. We issued an order to the property manager to get the system worked on by a qualified technician to restore it where it should be," explained Uttaro. The Freeport Housing Authority tells news 12, it works with Georgica Green Ventures to manage the housing complex. They say a tenant smoking in a unit triggered the building's fire alarm system which recently caused it to be taken offline. A Freeport Housing Authority spokesperson says the building is properly maintained.
