A Freeport man believed to be a member of the Crips was arrested Thursday night after police say he kidnapped and stabbed a 21-year-old woman there back in April.
Detectives say Thomas Beeks, 32, got into an argument with the woman in her vehicle on Oak Street – a dead-end street. Police say Beeks demanded to know where the woman had been the night before.
According to court documents, the victim said she had been with her cousin. Beeks then allegedly accused her of lying and stabbed her in the right leg.
Beeks allegedly said, “Now tell me the truth. I’m gonna stab you in the stomach.” The victim then begged to go to the hospital, to which Beeks allegedly responded, “You’ll go in a minute.”
Then he allegedly ordered her to drive to his house. While using her left hand to steer and holding her bleeding right leg, Beeks allegedly told her repeatedly, “You’re dead.”
Police say he punched the woman in the eye and threatened her with scissors.
Prosecutors say the victim was eventually allowed to drive to the hospital. Police say Beeks tried to flee in the victim's car, but was arrested without incident.
Beeks is facing numerous charges, including kidnapping, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
Court documents show Beeks has an aggravated harassment conviction from 2015, and in 2017 allegedly threw the same woman to the floor in his apartment and fractured her shoulder.
Beeks was arraigned today, and bail was set at $750,000. He was forced to sign an order of protection to stay away from the victim.
News 12 Long Island spoke to Alberta Rubin from the Safe Center LI today. While she can't comment on this particular case, she says that all too often there is a repeat pattern in domestic violence situations. She says there is help out there and that workers at the Safe Center will answer their hotline 24 hours a day.

“We can help them find safe housing,” says Rudin. “If they want to meet with a group of women, come to a group and just meet with other women, other victims in the same position, and start to talk with a counselor about what's going on.”
Anyone who wishes to get in touch with the Safe Center can call its 24-hour hotline at 516-542-0404.
