One of the founders of the senior advocacy group Voices for Seniors says she never thought Gov. Andrew Cuomo would resign but is not disappointed that he did.
"It was disbelief, it was shock, it was euphoria, a little bit of everything," says Vivian Zayas, of Voices for Seniors.
Zayas, whose mother died during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic last year after being in a nursing home for rehabilitation says she created Voices for Seniors to hold Cuomo accountable for his decision to allow COVID-19 positive patients back into nursing homes.
"My mother and all the other seniors that were put in harm's way, that were led to an early death were made uncomfortable when they, through no fault of their own ,or even much less some of their families knowing, got COVID," says Zayas.
Zayas says she and other members of her group are continuing their fight to hold the governor accountable for his decision despite the announcement Tuesday.
"We have to continue to put pressure so that the investigation does happen and that we have more clarity and transparency into what happened to our seniors," says Zayas.
