Former Islanders owner and founder of Computer Associates Charles B. Wang has died.

An attorney for Wang says he died surrounded by family in Oyster Bay.

There's no word on a cause of death.

Wang bought the team back in 2000 knowing its importance to Long Island. He treasured his association with the team and its devoted fans.

He was born in Shanghai, China in 1944, and moved to the US at the age of 8 years old.

In the 1970s he founded Computer Associates International on Long Island.

His family's attorney told News 12 that in addition to being an entrepreneur, Wang was also an author and philanthropist and that giving back always played a big role in his life.

He was 74 years old.

Funeral services for Wang will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations made to Smile Train or the NY Islanders Children's Foundation.
