A Central Islip man accused of stabbing a woman was arrested and charged with assault on Sunday.

Authorities say the incident took place early this morning inside a home on Peters Boulevard.

The victim fled the scene after the attack and entered a 7-Eleven on Suffolk Avenue.

A witness at the store called 911 around 2:47 a.m., according to police.

Authorities say the suspect, now identified as 29-year-old Jose Martinez, followed the victim and was arrested nearby.

She was hospitalized and treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

Police say Martinez knew the victim, but have not specified the nature of their relationship.
