Fire officials say an infant, a toddler and their mom were rescued from a fire in their Smithtown home.
Officials say the fire began in the top room of the Sterling Lane home around 3:15 a.m.
Authorities say Kristen Sidik, her 3-year-old daughter and 4-month-old son were sleeping when their smoke detector triggered an alarm. All three of them were rescued by volunteer firefighters.
Family members tell News 12 that Sidik heard the alarm go off and was able to get the kids, but it was too smoky and dark to make it out.
The children's father, Thomas, is a firefighter for the Hauppauge Fire Department and was serving in New Jersey with the Coast Guard Reserve at the time of the fire.
News 12 has learned this wasn't the first time firefighters rushed to the home. They helped Sidik give birth to her baby boy in the house four months ago. The same group of volunteers put their lives on the line today to save him.
Stony Brook University Hospital issued a statement saying Kristen Sidik remains in critical condition and her two children are in serious condition.
