Firefighters control blaze in Elizabeth maintenance garage
Dozens of firefighters responded to a fire that broke out at a Union County owned maintenance garage in Elizabeth.
Officials say the first 911 call came in around 5:30 a.m. Sunday, with smoke rising from the building on West Grand Street.
They say at one point about 75 firefighters were on the scene to put out the flames.
At least 15 county-owned cars and buses were inside the garage at the time. News 12 is told that most of the vehicles may come out with some smoke and minor heat damage.
Elizabeth Fire Chief Thomas McNamara says that no injuries were reported. Later Sunday morning, crews were still on the scene checking for any hot spots left inside.
Arson units were called in to try and find the cause of the blaze, but McNamara says nothing appears to be suspicious.
