An early morning fire Sunday caused the mass evacuation of an assisted living facility in North Woodmere. Fire officials say the fire itself was relatively minor, but the big concern at an assisted living facility is getting everyone out safely. Many residents are in wheelchairs or use walkers and need help getting out of the building. Fire officials say the cause of the fire appeared to be a faulty toaster. It took only a few minutes to extinguish, but it created a lot of smoke and it took a while to get everyone back inside. Officials say two residents had to be taken to the hospital for chest pains, one for an ankle injury and one firefighter was treated for heat exhaustion.
