A crowd of community members called for change Monday at the "Fight Back Presidents Day Rally" that was held outside of Senator Chuck Schumer's office in Peekskill.

"What's going on is that people are standing up and fighting back against an attempt to rob of us our democracy," said advocate Larry Cox.

The rally was organized in part by an advocacy group called Hudson Valley Strong.

"Well, the message today is that we need to tell our public officials and our leaders that we will not stand down to the current regime. We will not stand for what Elon Musk is doing and what the president is allowing," said advocate Kenya Gadsden.

Several people said they filled out postcards to encourage Schumer to stand up.

"All of his constituents here are very concerned about the democracy. We want him to be more active," said advocate Brian Walsh.

In response to the rally, Schumer's office issued a statement to News 12 saying, "We appreciate hearing from our constituents and are fighting alongside them against the many worrisome actions of President Trump."

Some Trump supporters, like Michael Herling Jr., were also seen watching the rally on Monday.

"I haven't been to many different opposite side protests," Herling Jr. said. "I've been to three Trump rallies, so I've seen my side and wanted to see what they're chanting for."
