It was a weekend of brush fires in Brooklyn as New York City experienced a historic streak of dry weather. Two brush fires broke out in Prospect Park on Friday and Saturday, and two additional fires sparked in Marine Park on Saturday. "I had been seeing the red flag warnings on my phone. I was thinking 'oh we're in the city there's nowhere really for a fire,' but not thinking about in the park," said Riley, a Flatbush resident. As of Sunday evening, the previous 10 days saw 120 brush fires across the city, accordingto the mayor's office. The weekend's weather was the perfect formula for brush fires. The city experienced low humidity, strong wind gusts, direct sun and very dry ground. On top of that, the air quality in the borough was dangerously high on Saturday due to wildfires in New Jersey. An air quality alert is still in effect until midnight.
