As Mother Nature’s dry spell continues, thousands of dead trees on Long Island’s East End have sparked concern due to the risk of brushfires.
Approximately 40,000 trees died as a result of the southern pine beetle infestation, George Gorman, regional director for New York State Parks, Long Island, told News 12.
He said employees are regularly on fire watch, patrolling woodland areas and are ready to call in local fire departments if needed.
