The family of a fallen hero from Coram received a new home Monday.
The widow and 5-year-old daughter of Air National Guard Staff Sgt. Louis Bonacasa moved into their new home on Tyler Avenue in Sound Beach Monday afternoon.
Bonacasa died four days before Christmas in a Taliban suicide attack in Afghanistan.
"It's bittersweet, but I'm just very grateful that they were able to fulfill my husband's dream of providing a home for me and Lily," Deborah Bonacasa said. "We're very thankful."
The developer, Landmark Properties, handed out keys to two homes for two families. The family of another Air Force member moved into the home next door.
Landmark offered the two houses at prices well below market value. A number of Long Island businesses, groups and volunteers donated and raised money toward the project.
Among those who contributed was the Lots of Love Club, a group of retired seniors from Setauket. They raised $400 to buy a washer and dryer for the Bonacasas.
