You're looking for something fun to do this weekend. How about heading out east? A great idea. Leins Farms has a ton of activities. Perfect for the fall. Now, Jen Selig has been at the farm this morning in Calverton talking about all the things you can do. Fall at that farm. Jen, there's so much to do all to ring in and celebrate the fall season right here on Long Island. I think this is the perfect pumpkin. In fact, pumpkin pumpkins are great crop this year for Eric because from what I've been learning this morning is as a farmer you want have good weather and for us families that want to come to your farm, we want good weather too and it looks like this weekend's gonna be good. Yeah, it looks like nice uh nice weather all weekend and uh the pumpkin crop is great this year. There's tons of pumpkins weather was nice for growing them all year. Um We got winter squash and gourds out here as well. All different size pumpkins and colors. So for everybody, we're talking thousands of pumpkins here and I see people out there that are bringing pumpkins to your farm stand but people can take a bag like this one and pick their own. Yeah, we can, you can do that uh the full canvas bag there for a set price or you can also do all one person can hold uh for a set price or if you just want to buy one, you can buy them loose per pound also. So can you tell me how to pick the perfect pumpkin? Like, what do you look for? Um, main thing is you just wanna make sure there's no soft spots as long as it's uh hard all around and you know, it's good and it's gonna last and then it's just really a preference of color and everything and shape and what you're looking for as far as that goes. So when folks come here, they could just start picking pumpkins. It's that simple. Yeah. Yeah, we hope to get a lot of people out here because there's a ton of pumpkins this year. It's a really great crop this year. I love it. I want to pick some too. So hopefully we can stick around here and enjoy it and send it back to you guys in the studio. Wow. Pumpkins. All right, follows in full swing and there are plenty of things to do with the whole family on the east end. Yep. You can celebrate the season at Lewin Farms in Calverton and our Gen Selig is there right now with everything you can look forward to. You're doing a lot of things there this morning, Jen, because there's plenty to do here, Aaron and Rich. We're having a little debate right now. So when you go apple picking, do you pick the apple then take a bite out of it or do you pick the apple? Put it in your bag and then wash it when you get home for me? I have no shame. I could easily take a bite. It's delicious. What about you, Eric? Yeah. Yeah. You just gotta eat it right off the tree. I think that's the right way. And we have Rome apples. They're very tasty and there's plenty still left for your family to come down and pick some. Yeah. Yeah. There's uh Rome is one of my favorites. A nice versatile apple and it's good for baking or eating fresh off the tree. So, you know, you can do a lot with it in the store as well too. And this field is huge. I mean, it goes on and on and on. Yeah, it's about 40 acres, I wanna say. So, yeah, it's a nice size field. And you've had people come since you opened in mid aust, you were saying? Yeah. Yeah. Um, yeah, we have two orchards. Um, it's just gonna be the big orchard now. Um, the one that we're in right now. Um But yeah, there's still uh nice apples out here to pick. So, you know, I hope to see everybody come out for sure. So what's the process like people can just drive on in and then get a bag? Yeah. Yeah. Park on by the road out there and uh when you enter we can we give you bags or you can buy a basket that you keep and then uh we just do per pound price. So uh that's pretty much it just pick whatever you want. They're delicious. I have to fill up a bag and make some apple crisp. After. All right, we're gonna check out pumpkins. Your pumpkin. Yeah. Yep. Got a 30 acre pumpkin field to take a look at and uh they're all grown right here right on the vine. So, all right, we're gonna head that direction and send it back to you guys in the studio all locally grown. Looking forward to that Jen. Thank you.

And our Jen Selig is at the farm in Calverton to get a sneak peek at everything to do. And I think you're standing in front of a corn maze, Jen. Right? Actually, we're inside the corn may. So if you're up for a challenge or if you just overall want to have some fun, you're gonna want to be inside of this corn maze. And if you've been here last year, that's totally fine because the maze is different this year. So again, if you're up for the challenge, you got to come here. I found Eric right by checkpoint number one. So there are some clues to come. So you don't have to get totally lost. But it's a fun time. Yeah. Yeah, there's seven number checkpoints they numbered in order. So you kind of get an idea if you're going in the right direction to help you out. So, yeah, it's a fun time. What's the prep work into this? This is a five acre about a five acre Maze, right? Um, yeah, we plan it around, um, end of June or by the fourth of July usually. And then, um, wait for it to come up a little bit and then we, uh, draw out the design and then we, uh, first I mow it and then I wrote until the path. Um, so that the, uh, stocks don't come back up. And, uh, and it's just, um, you know, putting in the checkpoints later on and doing some, uh, more mowing later on, uh, if need be, and then you just wait till fall and, uh, hope for good weather and hope that the people come and enjoy it. I'm sure people are gonna come here and enjoy you guys. Open up at nine o'clock. The Mas opens at 10 and the best part is again, like you said, seeing the kids, like run through here. Right? Yeah, it's a lot of fun for the kids. So, you know, whole families do it. It's, you know, it's fun just to get lost for a while and, uh, you know, enjoy the, uh, fall weather. All right. So let's take a walk through it. Let's get lost ourselves. And then we'll meet you guys um, to pick some apples coming up. So you're gonna want to stick around back to you in the city. It's a good idea to all to celebrate. All right here on Long Island, they have a little bit of everything from produce to all fun fall activities. These baby pumpkins which are called Jack Be Little to learn that this morning, some gourds that you can choose from. Look at this. This is called Swan squash. It's not edible, but it's really cute decor for your homes and they grow it all here and we're back with Eric with the pumpkins showing off all the kind of pumpkins pumpkins that you guys grow here. We're talking white pumpkins. The regular I know they have a name. Blue pumpkins. Yeah, the blue one is uh blue and white ones. We started doing a few years ago. Uh They're pretty, very nice looking decorative, um, unique. You don't see them all the time. We got the giant pumpkins as well. Um We got flat white pumpkins, round ones, um Giant Spooky Gorges, the, the one back there. Um I mean, it's still the uh the round orange ones are the most popular that, you know, people want for Jack O Lanterns and everything. But people like a variety to uh you know, to really make the house look more uh festive. I think So. Sarah and then we were just in the farm stand before. So if you buy any produce, you can also eat it and enjoy it here. Yeah. Yeah, we do roasted corn and potatoes on the weekend and, uh, we have a little picnic area here and, uh, you can sit down, um, have a little snack and, uh, keep going on to the UI fields or getting produce in the store. So, what's your favorite part? Because we know the kids are off for the Jewish holiday. I'm sure it's gonna be busy here this weekend. I mean, just to see all those faces is fun. Right. Yeah. Yeah, it's great to see everybody and, you know, see the kids, uh, you know, smiling when they're picking apples or picking pumpkins or whatever going through the maze. So we should go through the corn maze. Right. Yeah. Yeah, definitely. Yeah, we sell the cornstalks here too and, uh, yeah, we can take a walk through them next. All right, let's do it. Our Jen Selig is at the farm in Calverton with everything they have to offer. It's a really fun place there, Jen. It really is. Aaron and Rich. Look at me. I'm on a haystack. Technically, actually, this is called a straw stack. And you can see that they offer a variety of things from beer to pumpkins and to all the produce right over here. So people can do their food shopping without going too far without doing other things right here at the farm. And with me, I'm with Eric Lewin. You're with the farm and your great grandfather started this, right? Yeah. Yeah. It's been in the, the fourth generation now. Me and my brother uh running it just trying to keep on the tradition and uh grow food for Long Island. So for sure. And there's plenty to do here on the farm and I know this season is the busiest season for you guys. Yeah. Hoping for a nice weekend. This weekend, the weather is supposed to be nice, but especially after last fall we had a rain every weekend, but it's been, uh, better so far this year. Hopefully it'll continue and have a nice fall this year. And even if it is raining people can come in here on the farm stand. I mean, there's plenty to shop for in here. Right. Yeah. Yeah, we grow potatoes, tomatoes, uh, pumpkins squash, um, corn, uh, you know, there's a lot of stuff you can get right here fresh uh grown right here on the island. So a little bit of everything. So we're gonna be here all morning long. Can you kind of tell the viewers what we can expect throughout the morning? Um Yeah, we're gonna be going to the uh apple orchard, uh the corn, maize and the uh pumpkin field and um taking a look here in the farm stand also. I love it. I'll be tagging along with the America. All right. So we're gonna chill out here for a little bit and then go outside when the sun rises and show you what more you can expect when you come here at the farm back to you guys in the studio.
