An East Meadow woman's Facebook post sparked a chain reaction that has brought Christmas decorations back to East Meadow Avenue.
Angela Conte-Gentille says she remembers growing up in East Meadow and looking forward to holiday decorations on East Meadow Avenue each year. Then one year, she says it stopped.
"It was important because I want it for my kids...to have some cheer in the community. We need that," says Conte-Gentille.
Her post calling for the decorations to be reinstated led to an outpouring of support from residents and elected officials. It eventually led her to the East Meadow Chamber of Commerce who took her post to task.
Between the Chamber of Commerce and residents, more than $1,500 was raised to put up holiday decorations.
"It's a step in the right direction," says William Miranda, of the East Meadow Chamber of Commerce. He told News 12 Long Island that he hopes to get more funding next year for "bigger and better" decorations.
East Meadow Avenue will be decorated until the end of January.
