In August, the MTA began cracking down on double parking by ticketing drivers using cameras on MTA buses.
Now, parents in Soundview say it’s making the already hectic dismissal time harder.
Multiple families at P.S. 583 told News 12 they’ve gotten tickets for double parking during pick up or drop off, but they say the problem is that there’s nowhere else for them to park at this time.
The MTA says it only gives out tickets when a car is double parked for more than five minutes, but families say that’s just not enough time.
Others say they were ticketed after only four minutes. Some parents say they have even started parking with their trunks up in order to obscure their license plates from MTA cameras.
The DOT says it nstalled no standing regulations at this location to help with curbside pickup and dropoffs and reduce double parking.
