In a News 12 exclusive, the owner of a Mercedes-Benz is speaking out for the first time after he says his car was stolen at gunpoint and later involved in a deadly car crash on the Belt Parkway in Sheepshead Bay.

The car owner, who asked not to be identified out of fear of retaliation, said his family now lives in New Jersey but is originally from Brooklyn. He said his brother borrowed the car to visit the borough, but when he returned to New Jersey, a gunman stole the car.

The owner said the car was stolen around 2 a.m. on Sunday, when his brother was followed back to New Jersey by two people in a BMW.

“Everything happened so fast in the way it escalated,” said the owner.

In a phone interview with News 12, the owner said his brother parked the car when he returned home, and that’s when someone wearing a ski mask pulled a gun, forced him out of the Mercedes and took off.

“Since that point, we have no idea what happened to the car,” the owner said. “We found out on News 12.”

Police said the white Mercedes and a motorcycle collided at a high rate of speed along the Belt Parkway, when the car crashed through a fence, rolled several times and landed upside down between two parked cars.

The crash happened around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday near Exit 7B, just off of Shore Parkway and East 7th Street.

Police sources told News 12 that investigators recovered a gun inside of the car.

Police identified 29-year-old Besim Muminovic, of Astoria, Queens as the motorcyclist who died in the crash.

“I know an innocent person died,” the car owner said. “We feel really sorry about that. We’re sending out our condolences to him and his family. We wish that this never happened.”

Investigators have not yet released the identity of the 22-year-old man who was a passenger in the Mercedes and also died.

Police are still searching for the driver of the stolen car who ran from the scene.
