Former Town of Hempstead Supervisor Laura Gillen declared victory Tuesday in the Democratic primary for the 4th Congressional District.
Gillen will now face off against Hempstead Town Council Member Anthony D'Esposito, who ran unopposed.
Gillen says she is excited to get to work preparing for November. She says she wants to protect women's autonomy and their right to make their own health care decisions. Another big issue she wants to tackle is getting guns off New York streets.
Nassau Board of Elections officials say they saw an abnormally low turnout, even for a primary election, in this unique August primary.
