A former Suffolk County school teacher has been sentenced to 60 days in jail for having sex with a 16-year-old student.
Former Bellport High School teacher Jonathan Elsalam was facing up to a year behind bars.
Elsalam was originally charged with raping the student in 2011. However, he was only convicted of endangering the welfare of child.
Elsalam will not have to register as a sex offender.
Elsalam's attorney plans to appeal the decision.
