The polls are closed today, but they reopen tomorrow morning on Election Day. However, early voting brought people out in record numbers.
According to the Nassau Board of Elections, just over 223,000 county residents cast their ballots during the first 8 days of early voting.
The number is in addition to about 130,000 absentee ballots, which are still coming in by mail.
In Suffolk County a little more than 122,000 people took advantage of early voting. That number was in addition to more than 107,000 absentee ballots received as of Saturday.
"They were afraid of long lines on Election Day and they probably said I rather stay on a long line beforehand to know my vote is in and it's counted than risk not standing on a line on Election Day," says political consultant Mike Dawidziak.
The polls will open across the island at 6 a.m. tomorrow.
