For those who want to sell their home, there may be no better place in the country than Long Island.
A new study from real estate brokerage Redfin found that Long Island is now the strongest seller’s housing market in the United States, standing out as one of only six major markets nationwide where sellers still hold a clear advantage over buyers.
According to the report, buyers on Long Island outnumber sellers by 36.2%, creating intense competition for the limited number of homes available. While many housing markets across the country have shifted in favor of buyers, Nassau and Suffolk counties continue to experience strong demand and a shortage of inventory.
Redfin senior agent Sandra Glaser said the region’s appeal continues to drive demand, despite high home prices.
“Long Island has so much to offer,” Glaser said.
She points to the area’s unique combination of suburban living and proximity to New York City as a major factor attracting buyers. The result is a market where properly priced homes are often snapped up almost immediately.
“I’m seeing properties that are listed correctly and properly, they get taken up right away,” Glaser said. “I’m seeing multiple offers on properties due to the fact that there’s high demand but low inventory.”
Glaser also said changing family dynamics are influencing how buyers enter the market. With housing costs remaining high, more families are pooling their resources to purchase homes together.
“I’m seeing a lot of multigenerational families come,” she said. “They’re gathering their funds together to be able to purchase a property.”
The trend reflects the growing financial challenges facing homebuyers on Long Island, where rising prices and limited supply have made homeownership increasingly difficult for many residents.
For sellers, however, the market conditions remain favorable. With demand continuing to outpace supply, homes that are priced appropriately can still draw multiple offers and sell quickly.
