Four people were arrested for their involvement in an alleged street takeover along a busy road in Yaphank, Suffolk County police said.

Officials said someone called 911 to report a large gathering of vehicles on Express Drive North, just west of Sills Road, around 1 a.m. Sunday. This is the service road along the Long Island Expressway just south of a residential neighborhood.

The Suffolk County Police Street Takeover Task Force responded and saw vehicles racing before they dispersed as officers got on the scene.

Police pulled over a truck towing a trailer carrying what they described as a race car and arrested four people.

Suffolk County police charged Christian Vargas Hernandez, 28, with reckless driving, third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle and unlawful speed contests, sideshows and races. They also charged John Maldonado, 33, Lawrence Torres, 30 and Efrain Rivera, 35, with unlawful speed contests, sideshows and races.

All four are from Meriden, Connecticut and were issued appearance tickets to be arraigned at a later date.

The truck, trailer and car were all impounded.
