The driver of a hotel bus escaped injury after the vehicle caught fire near Newark airport Wednesday.

According to the Port Authority PBA, an officer noticed smoke coming from the bus on the departure level of Terminal A. The officer then notified additional crews and responded to the bus to assist and secure the scene.

“Fortunately, there were no passengers aboard the bus and the driver was able to escape without incurring injuries,” the Port Authority PBA said in a social media post.

Crews from the Elizabeth Fire Department quickly responded and extinguished the fire. The PBA said the responding Port Authority officer’s “quick actions taking control of the scene allayed the original fears of an explosion.”
