A 17th animal has tested positive for rabies in Suffolk County. The Department of Health says a dead raccoon found Friday in Amityville tested positive for the virus. Eleven of the animals have come from the Amityville area. Officials say there was no human contact with the raccoon. The Nassau Department of Health says there have been 27 cases in Nassau, 26 of them raccoons.
