Documentary to commemorate fallen officers, 'Heroes Behind the Badge,' screened at Hofstra
A film following five police officers from across the country was screened at Hofstra University on Sunday.
One of the featured officers in "Heroes Behind the Badge" is Arthur Lopez, a Long Island police officer that was killed while trying to make an arrest on the border of Nassau and Queens. Lopez was shot and killed during a traffic stop on the Cross Island Parkway in October 2012.
Lopez' partner,Keith Blum, was present at the screening and said Lopez always wanted to get into emergency service and go beyond patrol.
The producer of the film, retired Miami Dade police officer Bill Erfurth, says the film is meant to pay tribute to the police and to change perceptions and attitudes that people have toward law enforcement. He says he wants people to have a greater appreciation and respect for those involved in law enforcement.
Erfurth continued by saying the film is also for all of the friends and family of the brave men and women in the police.
A portion of the proceeds from the film will go to benefit the National Law Enforcement Officer's Fund.
