WBLI radio DJ Randy has yet to apologize for on-air comments he made Wednesday about the Mastic and Shirley communities, which has some calling for drastic action.
Angry calls and e-mails flooded WBLI after Randy told a call-in contest participant from Mastic that ?the whole trailer park will be excited? if she wins. He continued to make disparaging remarks about the community that some found insulting and out of line.
Randy was immediately suspended and radio station management apologized. Legislator Kate Browning (District 3), of Mastic, says that if Randy doesn?t apologize to the community, she may ask for a boycott against WBLI advertisers.
WBLI has given Randy until Monday to frame an apology to the community or his job could be in jeopardy, the station is hinting.
WBLI morning DJ Dana DiDonato says the caller Randy made the comments to has contacted the station and says she is upset the DJ was suspended. The caller says she understood it was comedy satire, according to DiDonato.
Mastic residents say they plan on holding a community roundtable discussion with WBLI's morning team and management regarding the broadcast Monday.
