The body of 51-year-old Dr. Brad Cohen, who grew up in Dix Hills, has been recovered from the collapsed condo in Surfside, Florida.
He was found on July 7 and positively identified by Miami-Dade police on July 16.
Friends say Cohen was home on the 11th floor of the Champlain Towers South when the condominium partially collapsed. Cohen was laid to rest Monday.
Rabbi Yakov Saacks, the director of the Chai Center and longtime family friend of the Cohens, says Gary came to visit the family and was staying at Brad's house.
Saacks says Brad Cohen started his life in Florida about 19 years ago. He was a loving husband and the father of two children. He was also a successful orthopedic surgeon.
"There's anger, there's despair, there's hurt and pain, there's shock and anguish," says Saacks. "Everything, they have it, and I keep telling them that every feeling they have is correct."
Cohen's 12-year-old daughter met with President Joe Biden earlier this month when he visited the site of the building collapse.
At least 97 people have been confirmed dead.
