Two brothers from Long Island are among the missing from the Florida condo building collapse, according to a local Rabbi.
Rabbi Yakov Saacks of the Chai Center in Dix Hills says Brad Cohen was with his brother, Gary. Gary is a doctor who was visiting Surfside, Florida from Alabama when the collapse happened.
The Rabbi says the two brothers grew up in Dix Hills.
"To pray, you know where there's life there's hope, we don't know if there's no life so we hope," says Saacks. "Obviously each day it's, uh it gets a little bit more painful."
The Rabbi plans to go to Florida with another Cohen brother to help with the search and provide comfort to the families.
"I don't fully understand what they're going through, so what I do is I listen. They talk, and I listen, and I tell them, 'I'm sorry. I'm sorry for what you're going through,' and I am. It's tedious and it's heart wrenching," Rabbi Saacks says.
Rabbi Saacks also says he is a member of the US Chaplain corps that is currently in Surfside helping families looking for their loved ones.
The pain is shared by the family of Bellmore native Judy Spiegel.
"She went to JFK High School, my dad is from Plainview," says Rachel Spiegel, Judy's daughter. "It's day six, we are exhausted, we just want our mom back."
Rachel Spiegel says her mom Judy's apartment was on the sixth floor of the building.
Rachel, who says she's been to the building many times, says she saw issues that are now being called red flags, like water in the parking garage and other things that needed to be repaired.
