A man was nearly stabbed to death in Franklin Square after he and a second man got into an earlier car accident on the Southern State Parkway early Sunday morning, according to Nassau County police.
Officials said Rashawn Marquez, 34, followed the male victim, 20, after the crash to the intersection of Rosegold Street and Sherwood Avenue, where exclusive surveillance video obtained by News 12 shows the victim slamming on his brakes.
Video then shows the driver in the first car getting out to confront the driver in the second car, who chases the victim off with what police said was an unknown sharp object.
Nassau County police said the victim was stabbed multiple times across his body before he got back into his car and drove about a mile away to his home on Franklin Street to call police.
“You hate hearing things about this," Franklin Square resident Michael Ryan said. "We just hope the victim is OK. We were glad the cops caught the perpetrator, and we hope justice is served.”
The victim was taken to a hospital where he is in stable condition, according to officials.
Detectives said Marquez also drove from the scene but was arrested in West Hempstead.
Police do not have any indication that the two men knew each other before the crash.
Police charged Marquez with second-degree attempted murder and first-degree assault, as well as third- and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
He is scheduled to face a judge for arraignment at First District Court in Hempstead later today.
