While the crowds may have thinned out at shopping areas across Long Island, deep discounts can still be had.

Retailers at Roosevelt Field Mall say they are trying to lure shoppers with aggressive discounts heading into the final weekend before Christmas.

"I got a keyboard that was $100 for $40," says Rob Olsen, of Wantagh. "That's 60 percent off."

Retail experts say that this year is the most discount-driven season since the so-called Great Recession hit in 2008.

However, the aggressive discounts have been a double-edged sword for retailers. The huge deals often eat away at retailers profit margins, forcing them into a cycle of constant discounting to attract shoppers.
