Taxes were due today for millions of Americans, despite the government shutdown.

The six-month tax-filing extension ended today for more than 12 million people in the U.S.

Taxes could have been e-filed or mailed, but they needed to be postmarked for today.

The IRS says refund checks will not be sent until the government reopens.
